~*Cozmo ..

25 Apr

Just like every day, i started my day with two glasses of water on an empty stomach then had my cup of coffee (1 tsp of Nescafe, 3 tsp of fat free coffee mate, 2 tsp of sugar) followed by 30g of Bran flakes with a glass of vanilla flavored soy milk (Alpro) ! This combination is a true delicacy and is most importantly  fulfilling!

As a first snack, i had a glass of fresh orange juice!

Did you know that each half a cup of freshly squeezed fruit juice counts as a portion of fruits ? Thus, watch out your drinks as they can add up many unwanted calories!

I had lunch at Cozmo cafe in Zaitunay Bay!

I started my lunch with 15 edamame; Eh-da-ma-me is the Japanese word for branched beans! They are a source of complete proteins which would naturally make you feel satiated and would help you avoid ordering a lot of maki rolls!

They are also low in fat and rich in antioxidants and phytochemicals. Phyto means plant in Greek and Chemicals are the plant’s chemicals that help the plant fight off the wind, the sun rays, the rain and protect itself against them all!Once ingested those phytochemicals also help our body fight off all free radicals and any type of disease! Thus strengthening our immune system and reducing the risk of cancer and other diseases!

1/2 a cup of edamame has 11g of proteins, vitamin C, vitamin B,vitamin E, minerals and  4g of fiber!

Then i had a crab salad, two shrimps, 10 salmon sashimi, 5 tuna sashimi and 3 maki rolls!

As an afternoon snack, i had a bar of special K with a fat free fruit yogurt! A true satiating delicacy!

I had for dinner wraps made of iceberg lettuce, 1 tbsp labneh light and two slices of turkey! A very quick, easy, tasty, low fat, low calorie dinner!

~The healthiest way of enjoying Sushi!

18 Nov

You guessed it right! Person B enjoyed eating sushi in a healthy way! Not only did that person eat less but also benefited from the nutrients found in salmon and tuna such as omega-3 and omega-6 that are of an extreme importance to an overall good health!

Eating too many maki rolls has never been and will never be an optimal solution to enjoy the healthy side of sushi! On the contrary one could easily fall in the trap of overeating and consuming many unwanted calories coming from rice, mayonnaise, “crispy”(that is by the way deep fried) and getting little or no benefits!

1)Whether you’re having sushi for lunch or dinner, always start with a bowl of edamame to share!

Eh-da-ma-me is the Japanese word for branched beans! They are a source of complete proteins which would naturally make you feel satiated and would help you avoid ordering a lot of maki rolls!

1/2 a cup of edamame has 11g of proteins, vitamin C, vitamin B,vitamin E, minerals and  4g of fiber!

If you suffer from constipation you need to increase your fiber daily intake and normal individuals need to maintain an intake of  25-30g/day.Make sure to include edamame in your daily diet plan!

2)Make sure to include a salad whether it’d be a salmon salad or a crab salad WITHOUT MAYONNAISE!!Or go for a salmon tartare!

(Salmon salad without Mayonnaise)

(Salmon salad with Mayonnaise and lots of Mayonnaise!!)

(Salmon Tartare)

3)While placing your sushi and sashimi order make sure to always have a ratio of sashimi>maki rolls!

(Salmon and Tuna sashimi)

4)Leave little or no space for maki rolls!

Can you spot the mayonnaise in the picture above??

Rikky’z open buffet

15 May

I had lunch at Rikky’z; a restaurant that’s located on the high mountains of Faqra-Kfardebian and that’s the biggest wood construction in the Middle East! It is widely known for its gastronomic cuisine, buoyant ambiance and notable music. Sunday’s buffet includes several salads (Tabbouleh, fattouche, crab salad, Rocket pesto salad, iceberg salad, etc.) in addition to a distinctive barbeque (Cotelettes, ribs, hot dogs, burgers, chicken breasts, chicken legs) and many other specialties (Pasta section, hummus, cheese rolls, etc..).

I started with those two salads (Rocket and Crab) then had one burger patty from the grill with 2 tablespoons of coleslaw, relish, pickles, mustard, and Coktail sauce with 10 french fries! I also had a bite of a cotelette and a rib! A true delicacy!

I managed to resist the appealing desert especially that i was going on a bike ride;I preferred to feel lighter ;)

14 May

I went out at night to AL Mandaloun (Club/Restaurant) located in Mar-Mikhael, Beirut. I chose to eat a salmon salad and picked up two small foie gras wraps! Although the fried food fingers were extremely appealing, i preferred to avoid them! The food was well prepared and served’ The taste and texture were excellent!

I also had two tablespoons of crab salad and shrimps salad!

Oh! I forgot to mention the handful of almonds !

Day 10

10 May

“I have met a lot of hardboiled eggs in my time, but you’re twenty minutes.” Oscar Wilde

I started my day with two glasses of water on an empty stomach then had my cup of coffee (1 tsp of Nescafe, 3 tsp of fat free coffee mate, 2 tsp of sugar) followed by a glass of skimmed milk with 2 bran toasts, a teaspoon of low fat labneh(sprinkled with thyme&sesame) and one boiled egg!

For lunch I had Tabbouleh, 3 tbsp of baba ghannouj (grilled aubergines mixed with tehini and lemon juice) and 120g of home-made shawarma (thinly sliced meat with coriander, garlic and diced tomatoes).

As an afternoon snack I enjoyed eating Casper&Gambini’s fruit salad with a scoop of strawberry sorbet!

HH loved the idea and promised to have it as a snack tomorrow! What about you ?

“Salad is for a meal what fish is for a seal.” Dietitian Nicole Maftoum

The word “salad” originated from salt, and began with the early Romans salting their leafy greens and vegetables. One of the simplest and healthiest health habits that anyone can commit to, is to begin each meal (lunch and dinner) with a salad. It provides enough fiber, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fills up the stomach, leaving a little space for the main course. The ideal portioning of the plate should always be: 50% salad, 25% Carbohydrates and 25% Proteins.

I went to ATCL, late in the afternoon to watch the sunset and catchup with RG and SAB (thanks RG for this brilliant idea :) ). I decided to order my favorite salad on the terrasse which is the crab salad!  I enjoyed and shared a large plate filled with lettuce, tomatoes, fresh mushrooms, crab chunks, 4 slices of avocado and 5 croutons and grated with 35 g of parmesan cheese! The dressing that comes along with this salad is a Ceasar dressing’ Thus, I ordered a balsamic dressing on the side that I poured on top of my salad and just took 2 tbsp of the Ceasar dressing!

Insufficient lighting after the sunset!

Day 5

6 May

I started my day with two glasses of water on an empty stomach then had my cup of coffee (1 tsp of Nescafe, 3 tsp of fat free coffee mate, 2 tsp of sugar) followed by 30g of Bran flakes with a glass of skimmed milk!

My day was really hectic; had meetings here and there in addition to the consultations in my clinic! Thus had to order food from Roadster diner since RK(the person i had a meeting with) was craving for a burger.. We ended up ordering two crab salads with one burger !

I also had a quarter bite from RK’s burger! The good thing is that RK  started with a salad before eating his burger and didn’t order fries :) He wanted to eat like a Dietitian!

I skipped my afternoon snack! And just had a cup of coffee (1 tsp of Nescafe, 3 tsp of fat free coffee mate, 2 tsp of sugar).

I went out at night to JH’s favorite happy hour hangout place: Dragonfly! (located in Gemmayze).

I shared a rocca parmesan salad in addition to 10 nachos and guacamole with SA!

And had two glasses of rose (wine)!
